Lazy Saturday

Man.

I’m glad we (OU) don’t have to listen to the football analysis from a guy like this!

Lazy Saturday

And now back to football.

Fail Blog

Well, I don’t like to bring to light my short comings, but yesterday’s was too good. So, here goes. I will share with you my moment of stupidity so that you can all enjoy a good laugh at my expense.

Several days ago, I realized that (since I work with people who couldn’t care less about sports) our church had scheduled a worship night on Thursday night Jan. 7th. For those of you that are a little slower, that’s the same night as the NCAA football National Championship. That is not good. And because of the time difference, I would most likely miss the entirety of the game. Boo! So like everyone else in the world now days, I tossed my problems to Twitter.

Not really even thinking that Twitter might come through for me, a few friends of mine helped me out! Melanie explained to me that you don’t actually have to have service for a DVR to work. I had no idea! I would have Craigslisted one of those suckers LOOOOOOOONG ago! Then Andrea hooked me up with her old TIVO! Woo. So it took me a bit to figure it out (mostly because it just wants to constantly tell me that it isn’t connecting to the service), but I finally figured out how to record stuff.

As I left for work Thursday morning, I turned on the TV and the TIVO and get everything set up and ready to go. Jan. 7th. FOX. 5 PM. Start 10 minutes early. End 2 hours late. Good to go. Off to work. After about 4:00 PM I decided it was time to remove myself from all social media and internet so that I wouldn’t ruin the game. Then after a great worship night, I headed home to watch the game! Ok, new machine, unsure if it worked, let’s check it out. It worked! It record…ed…something. Come to find out I got almost an entire evening of programing on FOX because the game was on ABC…or CBS…or PBS…or Lifetime or something! Are you freakin’ kidding me?! I thought the game was on the same channel that all the other major bowls had been on.

So after all that, I ended up having to watch the highlights on ESPN and didn’t even get to watch the game. Boo. I’m an idiot. Not even this book could have saved me.

New rule. No more church events on major sports holidays!

Sunday Expectations

Well, I have to say last week was a great one.  We got to see both sets of parents as well as do plenty of fun stuff.  And my staycation was awesome!  I’m actually really bummed it is coming to an end.  I guess I would get bored at some point, but I wouldn’t mind another week of it!  Still so much I needed to get done.  Oh well.  Sooner or later.

This week coming up will be a great one too!  It’s the first one of the year.  I love getting to see everyone working hard on their new year’s resolutions.  Those are not for me.  I figure…well, I’ll just make that a post.  Anyway, this week is gonna be good.  Here are some of the things I’m expecting.

  • The bowl games have been great so far and there is one more big one to go.  The National Championship game should be a great game!
  • With the new year, many people like to make their new year’s resolution to go to church.  God is going to use the Church to hit up some new folks!
  • With the last of the company leaving town until March the house will be pretty quiet again.  I expect that Jack will be a fan of that (although he always loves having his grandparents around).
  • The nursery is almost complete.  I expect Jack to calm the crap down and quit wearing himself out worrying about if we are moving or not.
  • I am almost ready to launch the new brookjames.com.  I think I’ll do it this week.

I hope you all are expecting great things from our all-powerful, awesome God this week!  He is more than capable to blow your mind!

Bedlam Football

If you were born in Oklahoma, have lived in Oklahoma or anywhere in Big 12 country, you know that Bedlam Weekend is quite a big deal!  That is the weekend of Thanksgiving, which those of you who are paying attention realize is now (if you didn’t know that you should come out of the panic room you have been hiding in).  Today is the day that determines the bragging rights for the rest of the year (or if we are really being honest until the next big Bedlam game during basketball season).

This year’s game will feature a completely beat up Oklahoma Sooners team vs. an Oklahoma State Cowboys team fighting to hang on to their bid for a big BCS game.  The Sooners are 64 – 2 or something like that at home since 1999 and one of those two teams is the Cowboys.  The Sooners have looked like crap on the road this year, but have still killed teams at home.  The Cowboys are having their best season in a really long time and are looking to give the Sooners their third home loss in 10 years.  But, either way, it is always a good game and will be fun to watch (and yell at the TV).

Because of the preggo we have decided not to go to the game.  I’m sure standing for 4 hours wouldn’t be super fun with a belly and on top of that if there is any sitting it’s not like she can stand up quick enough to see what happened on the play anyway.  So we are going to be in Norman and watching the game with my brother before we meet up with my sister and brother-in-law and Lee & Wes Jackson for some dinner.  So, if you are looking for some good football tomorrow, turn on the Bedlam game at 9:30 AM PT and root for the Sooners!

Lazy Saturday

It is amazing how rejuvenating and live bringing a completely lazy Saturday can be.  I love that I can lay on the couch (only getting up to use the restroom and get food) and it is sooooo good!  I have never read Chicken Noodle Soup For The Soul, but I’m pretty sure there has to be at least one if not two chapters dedicated specifically to taking one day and being lazy.

Today I am planning on hanging with the wife around the house.  There will be football.  There will be food.  There will be the occasional yelling at the TV (although the OU game is early in the morning so there is quite a debate going on in my head about whether or not to get up early on my free, lazy Saturday to watch it).  There will be Jack.  There will inevitably be a couple errands.  There will be no cleaning!  There will be no making the bed!  There will be relaxing!  I can’t wait.

What is your “lazy Saturday”?

Obama, Nobel & The BCS

As we all know, recently President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.  That’s quite an accomplishment for our President.  My life in the past month has been pretty insane and so my only TV watching has consisted of a couple random shows (usually watched on the internet later) and football.  There hasn’t been much talk about the Nobel Peace Prize in between plays.  Now I know there has been lot’s of talk about President Obama not deserving the award and whatnot, but I am not here to add to that.  I have a couple actual questions that I would really be interested to know the answers to.

  • What did President Obama do to deserve such a huge award?  (I’m serious.  No sarcasm.  I really just don’t know the answer to this.)
  • We all know that there are tons of MAJOR issues going on here in America and all over the globe, yet our leader and many others are worried about the BCS.  Does no one else have a problem with this?
  • If President Obama actually could “fix” the BCS to make everyone happy, would he then be worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize?

This would be such a stylish picture if there wasn't all that stuff in the background. Ha!

The Start Of The Rest Of The Season

Well, I don’t think my Sooners have started with a record of 3 – 3 in the last 14 years.  Ever since Bob Stoops arrived in Norman, they have been outstanding!  But, this year, it’s as if an Oklahoma player was on the cover of NCAA Football ’1o!  There have been injuries all over the place.  I guess you could call it a rebuilding year, but it wasn’t supposed to be.  At least that’s not how the sports media portrayed it.  But, I guess you can’t win them all.  So today we start the rest of the season.  The brave non-conference schedule is in the past.  OU saxeT is in the past.

OU Injuries

Now it’s time to look toward different goals.  The goals we had are gone so we have to review.  Now I want to see us be the spoiler!  It’s time for Landry Jones to get a good season’s worth of experience under his belt.  We will need him to step it up next year as we are contending again.  But this year, I wouldn’t mind seeing OSU beat saxeT and then OU beating OSU.  It would be a lot of fun to hear everyone freak out again because of a 3-way tie for the Big 12 South.  I’m not gonna lie, I would love to see saxeT’s chances ruined.  That would make me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside.

So now we look forward to next season while still cheering for this one.  OSU knows what I mean.  (Ouch…sorry, couldn’t pass it up.)  I guess I won’t get to watch too many more OU games out here now.  Boomer Sooner!

Oh and I’m having a little baby girl!  She’s gonna be awesome.  I bet she’s gonna be a Sooner, too!

Boomer Sooner

Sorry everyone.  No blogging for today.  Gotta focus on the Red River Rivalry this morning.  Don’t worry.  I’ll be back later (hopefully with a new Sooner trophy)!
